Νέα έκθεση καταγράφει το μερίδιο της Tencent σε μεγάλες εταιρείες και υπηρεσίες από το 2019

We all know the big Chinese mega-corporation with its many branches, best known as Tencent, has a hand in a lot of things. And if you are a gamer, you’ll know the Chinese company is ever increasing its stock in certain companies to gain more power. Well, according to a new report, you get to see how much stake Tencent has in both major companies and services as of 2019.

In case you don’t know, your “friendly Chinese neighbor” known as Tencent is said to be the world’s “largest” gaming company, one of the world’s most “important” technology companies, one of the world’s “largest” social media companies, and one of the world’s “largest” venture capital firms and investment corporations.

Whether you believe or discredit the above is purely up to you, but there’s no denying that the company has a big hand in many services like social-network, music, web portals, e-commerce, mobile games, internet services, payment systems, smartphones, multiplayer online games, and the film industry with the 2015 branch Tencent Pictures.

With over 300 investments in Tencent’s portfolio, website PCGamer (archive.org) rounded up a small list of big companies and services and how much big boy Tencent has a share in said company’s pie.

For starters, Riot Games and Sharkmob are wholly owned by Tencent with the company snagging 100% of both share:

  • Riot Games (League of Legends) – 100%
  • Sharkmob – 100%
  • Supercell – 84.3%
  • Grinding Gear Games (Path of Exile) – 80%
  • Epic Games – 40%
  • Fatshark – 36%
  • Funcom – 29%
  • Κακάο – 13.5%
  • Bluehole (PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds) – 11.5%
  • Εξελίξεις συνόρων – 9%
  • Ubisoft – 5%
  • Activision Blizzard – 5%
  • Paradox Interactive – 5%

As you can see above, Tencent has a hand in a lot of well-known companies and is fisting them like slaves. Nevertheless, other popular services such as Discord and Reddit have funding from everyone’s favorite Chinese mega-corporation:

  • Reddit – έλαβε επένδυση 150 εκατομμυρίων δολαρίων από την Tencent νωρίτερα φέτος
  • Discord – έλαβε 158 εκατομμύρια δολάρια σε χρηματοδότηση πέρυσι από την Tencent

Finally, the website concludes the piece by noting Tencent owns around 20% stake in Sea (a South-East Asia esports and publishing company) undisclosed stake in web game publisher Miniclip, and about a half a dozen minority stakes in a “list” of mobile game companies.
