Starbreeze Studios and Overkill Software revealed the next cinematic trailer for Overkill's The Walking Dead. The cinematic is themed around the old and grayed and crazy survivor named Grant.
The three minute trailer starts with the old-timer walking down a mostly deserted highway; wearied and gaunt from the travels and tribulations of surviving in a zombie apocalypse.
He steps inside of a car, pulls open the compartment, rolls some sweet liquor across his lips, feeling the burn as it slides uncooperatively down his throat, and then meanders in spoken word about his granddaughter while a zombie – strapped into a chair by the seat-belt – reaches for him with desperate purpose. The old man, Grant, goes on about how his granddaughter is asking about death and talking about being a pirate.
Meanwhile some stragglers begin moving in on the car where he’s jabbering to the mouthless zombie. Eventually Grant shoots the zombie in the head, which attracts the attention of a heck of a lot more stragglers, and the trailer begins to pan out while showing a roaming horde focusing their direction on the broken down station wagon where he’s sitting.
Many commenters pointed out that the stuffed animal in the backseat of the station wagon is actually from a crossover mission that involved Αριστερά 4 Dead in Payday: Η ληστεία. Many also commented that Grant looked a lot like Bill from Αριστερά 4 Dead. According to the press release, Grant is an outdoors-man and a hunter, so he knows his way around a rifle and how to survive without the amenities of a concrete jungle.
The main issue is that we’re starting to see that Overkill Software may be compromised. So far their hero selection consists of an Asian doctor, a black D.C. staffer, and an old white guy. This seems to be the typical modus operandi from most Western developers these days when it comes to character selection. Able-bodied, youthful, strong, testosterone-driven white males are no longer allowed to be the heroes, while token diversity characters fill out the ranks.
Hopefully Overkill proves me wrong and they aren’t compromised, and we won’t find ourselves knee-deep in SJW central when Overkill's The Walking Dead releases for PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
