Persistently trying, Bethesda Softworks and Bethesda Game Studios are still trying to spread the controversial game known as Fallout 76 to different clients. This means the game known for all its woes will be on both the Bethesda.net launcher and Steam when the Wastelander update drops on April 14th, 2020.
Firstly, if you own Fallout 76 on PS4 or Xbox One, you will have access to the Wastelanders update. However, the “account linking” process from home consoles to Steam isn’t possible since it is only reserved for PC goers that have a Bethesda.net account.
I should note that current or existing Fallout 76 owners shouldn’t have to purchase any additional content to play the Wastelanders update when it launches. This expansion is said to be free for all Fallout 76 owners and will feature crossplay between Steam and Bethesda.net users.

Please retry or contact Customer Support for assistance” appears when linking a Bethesda.net account to an external account that already has a Bethesda.net account associated with it, then it means you must check what your Bethesda.net account is linked to by visiting the “Linked Accounts” page on your account on Bethesda.net.
If you wish to change the Bethesda.net account associated with an external service (such as Twitch or Facebook), you will need to go to the “Linked Accounts” section of the correct Bethesda.net account and use the “Unlink” option.
If none of the above works, then it’s likely on Bethesda’s end, as explained on bethesda.net.
